2 live music guests this week...

we welcome Tarantula AD in the studio for a live session - colossal quasi-classical post-rock or slighty pagan metal crossover with a cello? - tune in to find out! awesome latest record 'Book of Sand' features vocals from Devendra Banhart and Sierra Cassidy (CocoRosie) , "an album to be hidden under your bed, either that or filed next to Saxon’s epic Crusader" (boomcat) - the band are in the UK for an appearance at the ATP Festival.
www.tarantulaad.com
www.myspace.com/tarantulaad

live performance also from Cormac Heron previewing his 'Prolapsed Catholic Guilt Show' to be performed on 18/5 at the 12-Bar in London - Cormac's appearance on the show in March with his 'With Or Without You, I Can't Live With Or Without You' show was an absolute riot; he will be taking a break from live performance after this weeks show so it seemed rude not to have him in - the show will explore Catholicism, the fear of god and the theories of Einstein with the aid of the genre of punk - he's said there won't be any stilt-walking this time, but you never know! - let's hope it's all written before wednesday!

a monster helping of live music with no less than 4 acts...

Dave Kusworth / Darrell Bath - we welcome our first live guests under sad circumsances. founder Swell Map/Jacobite/solo artist Nikki Sudden sadly passed away on Sunday following a show in New York - a great loss. Nikki was due to play the 12-Bar club this evening with Dave Kusworth as the Jacobites and we had invited them on to todays show. Dave is going to play the gig tonight as a tribute to Nikki and has agreed to come in to Resonance to remember Nikki, he will be joined by Darrell Bath who accompanied Nikki when he came in at the beginning of the year.

ECCE - Nicholas Lisher is a London based shoegazing electronica act, formerly working as the Ex-Girlfriends. a single on awkward silence recordings is out soon and two tracks can be found on 99outof10 recordings sampler.

The Fog Is In The Fir Trees - new project for singer-songwriter,multi-instrumentalist Paul Newland. last sighted a couple of years back as Occam's Razor with an album on Victory Garden Records offshoot S.O.U.L. following a string of recordings both solo and with bands such as the much missed Stormcock. www.victorygardenrecords.co.uk

Skip McDonald - Skip McDonald IS Little Axe. originally from Dayton, Ohio Skip played the blues from the age of 8 (1957), although by the time he was 12 years old he had opted to perform doo-wop. Along with bassplayer Doug Wimbish and drummer Keith LeBlanc formed the house band for the pioneering rap label Sugar Hill, providing the music for some of the most seminal records of the era by Grandmaster Flash, Afrika Bambaata et al. From there he worked closely with Adrian Sherwood on many of projects for the On-U Sound label, as well as spearheading the band Tackhead and working with Living Colour. He has been the prime mover behind Little Axe since around 1992, the debut album "Wolf That House Built" was a personal take on blues and dub, and was released to critical acclaim in 1994. Skip has continued to fuse blues and electronic music into this decade. Along with Skip we welcome back Rupert Orton from Not The Same Old Blues Crap (www.punkrockblues.co.uk) who will talking about the month-long Spitz Festival of Blues which will feature Little Axe among a large and diverse range of shows.

gLASSsHRiMP radio: Wed 1st Feb 2006

after last weeks live extravaganza we calm things down a little with only 2 live acts this week...

we welcome something of a debut from the mighty Giant Paw - a so far studio only project with members based in london, prague & bodmin - the filth and the furry!
info(?) at: www.giantpaw.co.uk

also a welcome back to MTK - trio (Tom Tlalim, Matt Wright and Keir Neuringer) based in the Hague - improv with loops and breakbeats, their last 'sHRiMP session was pretty special so this should be a treat!

gLASSsHRiMP radio: Wed 25th Jan 2006

5pm til 6.30pm (London time) - as ever broadcast live on Resonance 104.4FM in central London and streaming from www.resonancefm.com

a live music feast this week with 3/4 live acts in the studio - Castanets / Jana Hunter - Raymond Raposa (guitar, electronics, and vocals) brings his epic and inspiring avant country songs and will be accompanied by Jana Hunter (no beard) on bass and vocals. Jana Hunter's songs, her haunting voice & unique guitar style make her recently released gloriously lo-fi debut 'Blank Unstaring Heirs of Doom' a very special record indeed, it's the first record to be released by Gnomonsong, a record label founded and run by Devendra Banhart and Vetiver’s Andy Cabic. www.janahunter.tk www.myspace.com/janahunter www.asthmatickitty.com

also in and kicking off the show are Leeds based trio Quack Quack who make rather beautiful minimal rock music, sometimes droney, often rhythmic - in town for a show at the Brixton Windmill (25/1) supportes by the also splendid Kyote. Quack Quack have a cd-ep out on Run of the Mill records and a 7" coming soon. www.runofthemillrecords.co.uk

we also welcome back Alun Tan Lan, he was in a while back as an accompianist to Euros Childs, he's back with some of his own fine songs (perhaps) from his rather lovely 'Y Distawrwydd' CD - also in London for a show at the Barfly (25/1) with the Poppies. www.aluntanlan.com

bag contents unimportant as we'll play very little with all that live music on - in there is the Warmer Milks, the Poppies, Super700, Majessic Dreams, Ariel Pink - so expect a couple of those.
